There has been a growing concern of the people becoming adicted to text based games such as miriani and alter ego. This concern has grown to the point that there needs to be an answer to people to blind people need to educate themselve more. This same principal applies to those who have sight. Games are a waste of time and do nothing but dumb you down. The really sad thing about it is that there are people such as a couple of mikes, a few daves and other generic names that come to mind. I want all of those who are fend up with these no-lifes who waste their time on a game. When I hear that someone has broken down and had to go to a mental institution because their favor ship was blown up, I just ask them why they are crazy about entries in a data base. For example, you need to be pretty low to name a friggin entry Kitty. Please, all who are for this petition, sign your name below.

anyways, alter isn't too bad, you don't have to worry about losing your person like you do in marionni. I'm not supporting that game much amymore anyways, but leave alter out of it.

see, the issues are when you try to remain in character, the things that happen out of character effect you, having everything you had robbed from you in an ooc sense then having it happen ic, you cannot undo that pain i do agree that miriani is falling in on itself sorta but i do see changes that will improve the gameplay for us all. ps i like cyber assault no pk

The problem is not pvp itself, however there is a problem with people not being able to separate ic and ooc for shit, but that is becide the point... I had deleted for a while because there was shit that was messin with me ooc, and I figured I'd step back and try another char out, but I also see your point as far as being adicted goes... it is truly like having a second life, so to speak.

And, also I forgot, if the creater or miriani had any brains he would be eating his spaghetti through his ass!!
hey dont even start on the hosts i think they do a fantabulous job and are very kind and helpful, they have even talked to me on a somewhat personal level on how i can improve some things and helped me to start setting goals for myself i really owe them thanks actually

Yes, it's sad that they waste their lives playing 24/7, but is it our place to tell them to get a job or go to college to make something of themselves? I think it's pathettic that you even posted this board Cody. I play Miriani, I love Miriani, when I come home I get on Miriani and play. Not because I'm a loser with no life. I'm starting college in the fall to major in psychology and intent to get my Masters. I'd rather be someone who likes to play games and be sociable than some nerdy loser with his nose up his linix's various ports all day.

well, even if the game had issues, as aposed to the players what diffrence would a hundred people agreeing on the zone make? is it not true that some are very adicted to the zone? and have the same issues on here? does that mean we have to go some were else to try to stop the zone? then once people start using that site move to another and call for that to be shut down?

I'm Albori, the creator of Miriani. I stumbled upon this charming petition by happenstance and I must confess, I am rather confused as to the eventual goal. Do you wish to shut Miriani down? Do you wish to remove all mention of it from the Zone? Do you want people to stop playing the game? Do you want people named Kitty, Mike, and Dave to be force renamed?
If you can clarify the issues you're having with Miriani, I'd be happy to take them into consideration. It would also be delightfully handy to know what the goal of this petition is, so I can act accordingly.

Hello! I happen to be a grumpy host named Merugle. I hear that you can, in fact, play a game without being addicted. Just like you can go on the Zone and not get addicted. Wanting to spend free time on a game isn't a crime. Sure, you could be doing other things, but people can't be doing intellectual things or working every minute. It's true that some people probably do invest themselves too much in to Miriani, but that's not a reason to not play it all.

Clearly you missed their point. It's not that it can't be changed. People in Miriani don't have a tag by their name that says MIRIANI ADDICT; it doesn't mean they aren't addicted. Similarly, you can't change your title, but your title is there because you spend a lot of time on the site, which is your basis for calling Miriani people addicted. By your own definition, you are addicted. Isn't that exciting?

To the original poster, I don't play Miriani religiously, like I used to, but I do when I want to pass time. I have a life, you know. A Daughter and a husband and all that to worry about. Just because I spend some of my time on a moo (because it's a moo, not a mud) doesn't mean I'm wasting my life away. Some of us actually enjoy playing well-thought out games. Role playing is fun. You clearly must have had some trouble on Miriani, to be this bent out of shape about it. I'm curious ... who blew up your ship or stole it while you stupidly let them enter your airlock? How many drones did you have on board? And did you have any internal stun turrets? I mean, come on. You bitch about people not being able to distinguish between IC and OOC, and you're guilty of it yourself. Pathetic.
Just for the record, I am Zelda Schrader IC, and always will be Zelda Schrader IC. Whatever happens to Zelda IC, stays IC. I prefer to keep my OOC life out of the game.
Sucks when you get stuff stolen from you in game, though, doesn't it? So what. You bounce back eventually, and learn an important lesson. Better security on your ship next time, to prevent it getting stolen! And oh, the undock command works, too, for when someone's trying to dock to you to attempt breaking in.

Firstly, I'd like to say the initial creator of this post is an idiot.... having said that I'll start my rant.
How is it the Host's fault if a game is good and fun, and why do you even care? Games, including text-based ones, promote hand-eye coordination, problem solving, and creativity; Much more than making love to your computer all day, Cody. It is the fault of the player if they cannot tell the difference between IC and OOC events, not the fault of the creators or moderators. It is also that person's fault if the get addicted *coughmikecalmoycough* but as long as it isn't hurting their lives in any way, they have a right to get addicted to any (legal) thing they want to.
I'd also like to ask if you ever tried programming a MUD... its quite hard, fairly annoying, but its fun to see the progress you've made. Its no different than writing a book for people to enjoy. This is why i will not sign this petition, and anybody who does is either an idiot or severely delusional.
I would also like to congratulate Albori, Merugle, and any other hosts who happen to see this thread for making a fun game, while im not an addicted player, i find the game fun and immersive. Thank you.

Okay, here's my thoughts on this subject.
To the creater: Get a goddamn life and stop talking shit. What the Fuck? There is nothing more fun than to play games on the PC. In fact, I play two right now, the ones I'm focusing on are forumwarz and the wrestling game. And while yes, they are web based games, they are better than Alter Ego. Alter Ego is great the first time you play it. After that it gets boring.
And here's my oppinion on miriani. I was an old player of the squidSoft games, and one powerful lessen that those games taught me was to never use leetspeak. Since those games closed, or beforehand, I have never used a "Lol" or "ROFL" IC or OOC again.
I was never a fan of Star Conquest, perfering Galaxy Web: Stellar Epic instead, due to the assload more things it had more than Miriani like a real space system. By that I mean no instanius travel wormhole drive stuff, it was realtime hyperspace. And it had more things than combat missions, too. Never got around the combat system of either SC or Miriani. I also wish we had a game like Fortharlin, simply because the mudding comunity needs it again.
Also I believe that if GWSE were to come back, I'm better at RP and decition making, and simply won't recreate my character when something goes wrong. Furthermore, I believe I'd piss off less people this way, but to the alliances I did piss off that'll stay IC I guess even though it's all over. I still see them as game events, practicly because when I kept getting blown up every time I turned around I don't know how to RP my way out of this type of situation. Especially on Miriani, I have quite a reputation for being an asshole on there too just from playing previous games so I just haven't logged on in quite some time. IC, it's a long ass nap.

Ok, for those who absolutely have no life other than to bash me for moot reasons I will now give my reasons why I hate text based games such as mirania.
1. The game has no solid story line
2. The game has no realistic foundation or goal
3. You are wasting your time and never getting anywhere.
So my question is, why play a game where there is no objective? At the very least, play something that actually has a point or a realistic story line. These developers don't sit there and code for nothing. It makes mirania look like crap. Seriously. All you text based gamers, get used to the real text based shell and also get a large order of a life as well it can come in very handy. Thank you for your time. I also bet most of you are over 170 pounds. Who play this thing, notice I said most not all.
ok, here is my response to this.
1. Spell the game correctly. miriani m i r i a n i.
2. Yes, the storyline is a bit fuzzy, but, I realy didn't read it until I had gotten started with the game, I read the help files, and then started playing it.
3. to be completely honest, I really don't know of any games that have an actual storyline to them. They are mostly fantasy, or something like that. Except for maybe some of Hell's characteristics.
The storyline of miriani is constantly evolving, through players' actions and host-driven IC events. Will we always be at war with the Praelor? Maybe. After all, being able to do missions is always fun. But if we decided we wanted to try and communicate with teh Praelor, or found a way to do so through some kind of rosetta stone (SP?)-- because I'm assumig they don't have a language structure like ours, then maybe peace would be an option. But we drive the story as much as the hosts. there's a timeline/history, but I'm sure it'll be added to as things progress. The brief AIE/CW war, for example.

2. It has as much of a storeyline as you make it. There are all kinda player generated storylines going on right now and seeing as you don't play, you have no idea what storylines are going on. In fact, we are just waiting for a huge event involving a full scale praelor attack, noone know when or how it's going to happen, but this storeyline has been going on for well over 3 months now.
3. I am certainly not over 170 pounds. lol. And even if I was, that's none of your stuck up business. Some of the nicest people I know are a little on the large side and just because they might play Miriani too is a problem...why?
4. You never get anywhere? That depends on what your goals are. I've got plenty far enough thanks, through becomming a competant pilot and working hard. Maybe if you wern't so bitter about the game, you could give it a chance to. Besides, Miriani is much of a social thing as it is a game. Often I'll just log on to chat to friends or to chill in their apartment or play games, much like we do here.
Games are made for people to have a little time and escape reality for a little bit of time...

Well I'm personally not on miriani as actively as I used to be for several reasons mainly that I got kinda bored of the same thing over and over again but I come around still from time to time. As far as people not having a life just cuz they play that's not true either. I have a job, soon to have two jobs and yet as I said I slip on by to miriani from time to time.
The story line is an ever evolving story line that always changes through host/player interaction and in actuality most newer muds are like that now.
As for not going anywhere, yes I was a bit adicted at the time but I managed to get a battlecruiser, lots of money, be the number one player in the game, make a few friends and a couple enemies as well. So trust me, I've gone somewhere.
In short, although I myself am not all that satisfied with miriani right now that doesn't mean that it is a super horrible game that everyone should petition to get rid of. It's a game that took lots of work to code and that many people still to this day do support.
Albori and Merigle, keep it up, and don't worry about someone who feels a little upset because a battlecruiser probably bullied them or something.
